About me

Hi there, my name is Martin Parkes and I was born in 1970 and currently live in England and work for a company called RTC North(*) as their Web/Database manager. I develop software using a variety of software/languages, such as ASP, PHP, (X)HTML, Javascript, Ajax, Flash MX, SQL2000, MySQL, Visual Basic 6, Access (all versions), Dreamweaver, FireWorks and ASP.NET. I've only worked for the company since 02nd April 2001.

Finally obtained my Master Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) Designer qualification on the April 05 2005. This was achieved by completing three exams, which were CIW Assoicate - foundation series, CIW Professional - Site designer series and finally the CIW Master - E-commerce, though not all on the same day.

I finished an Open University course in 'Discovering Science S103' back in 2003, which I'm glad to say I passed with an overall total of 83%. I hope to gain a BSc Physics degree eventually. Its proving to be very intresting, but difficult, because the last time I did any studying was at school, so many years ago.

I am married since 1993 and have a wife (Jane) a daughter (Laura - born 1996) and a son (Daniel - born 2000) that I love very much and mean the world to me. Before I got married I lived in and visited many places including Hong Kong and Germany as my father was in the armed forces.

I joined the Anthony Nolan Trust register around 1992 and have yet to be called up to give any bone marrow, but came fairly close once.

I studied Lau Gau Kung Fu for about 2.5 years and gained yellow belt which was only 3 from black, in total there were 8 belts, starting at white, blue, orange, green, yellow, purple, brown and finally black.

My other main interests are Star Trek and Babylon 5, well I like anything that's sci-fi really. I am currently the Admiral of a Star Trek simulator, which is played via e-mail, if anyone is interested visit the USS Endeavour(*) web site.

I have several authors whose books I enjoy reading. The main two are Wilbur Smith and Robert Ludlum, but there are others.
