It had a sad ending which resulted in the crew of 26 dying of what looked like accelerated old age, which was caused by a group of genetically engineered childrens immune system that seeks out and attacks sources of disease.

The ship had to be destroyed by a single photon, which was fired from the Enterprise-D in order to stop the spread.
